Gary I. Currier
Gary I. Currier was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from St. Mary's University in 1983 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the University of Texas in 1986.
Gary is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the area of Estate Planning and Probate Law and is a Certified Public Accountant. He goes by "Currier" around the office to keep from being confused with Garry Vacek.
Gary is admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court in the Northern District. Gary is a member of the State Bar of Texas (Tax and Real Property, Trust and Probate Sections) and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court (Northern Texas and Western Texas Districts).
While Gary's practice is mainly centered in estate planning, probate and tax planning, he probably has the most diverse practices in the firm. Some of his recent representative experience includes:
- Designing wealth transfer and succession estate plans that minimize gift, estate, inheritance, and generation-skipping taxes, including plans designed to protect family assets and shift wealth down to the next generation, including family limited partnerships (FLPs), qualified personal residence trusts (QPRTs), intentionally defective grantor trusts (IDGTs), irrevocable life insurance trusts (ILITs), grantor retained trusts, Crummey trusts, among others
- Structuring and implementing business succession plans
- Advising clients on entity formation, including S-Corporations, LLCs, and Partnerships
- Preparation of estate tax returns, gift tax returns, and income tax returns for entities and individuals
- Preparing asset protection plans for clients in high risk professions, such as physicians
- Preparing specialized estate plans for farmers and ranchers designed to keep the farms & ranches in the family

- Assisted clients with new found wealth (lottery winners, lawsuit plaintiffs, etc.) in developing financial and estate plans designed to help them keep such wealth and avoid losing it through taxes, bad investments, etc.
Prior to returning to Austin in 2000, Gary worked at such firms as Smith, Carter, Rose, Finley & Hoffmann in San Angelo, Butler & Binion in Houston, and West, Webb, Allbritton & Gentry in College Station.
Gary and his wife, Jennifer (who is the General Manager of the Hyatt Place--North Austin), live in Georgetown, but love to travel abroad. They have recently visited Phuket, Bangkok, Singapore, Moscow, Aruba, and Mexico.
